Opening Range, Inventory, and the First Hour Profile
Why the shape of the first-hour profile often foreshadows whether the day becomes a trend, a balance, or a reverse.
The opening range is more than a high and low. Its profile shape—balanced, elongated, or double-distributed—hints at whether early inventory is comfortable or already under pressure.
An elongated first-hour profile with a clear POC near one extreme often sets a directional bias for the rest of the cash session, provided afternoon volume continues to support that extreme. A tightly balanced first hour with overlapping value invites a midday rotation.
Track where your own fills sit relative to that early POC. Inventory that is long above a collapsing POC faces different pressure than inventory short below a rising one. Structure mapping without inventory awareness is incomplete for discretionary traders.
